Korean Name Generator

What would my Korean name be? Pick a vibe, a style and a seed word, and get a real Korean given name — Hangul, romanization, Hanja and what it means. The pool is 130 names from Korea’s birth-registration statistics and classic favourites; meanings come from the Unicode Unihan database and the Standard Korean Dictionary. It is deterministic: same choices, same name — so the card you share is reproducible.

How Korean names work

  • Family name + given name. 김민서 = 김 (Kim) + 민서 (Minseo). Given names are usually two syllables; some are one (별) or native words (하늘 “sky”).
  • Hanja give meaning. Most given names are chosen from the Supreme Court’s list of name-eligible Chinese characters — parents pick characters for their meaning (瑞 auspicious, 俊 talented). The same Hangul can be written with different Hanja, so a name’s meaning is a choice, not a fact of the sound.
  • Modern vs classic. Today’s top names (이준, 이서, 하윤, 도윤, 서아 …) are soft and short; older generations favour names like 영수, 지영, 현우. Filter by era to match the feel you want.

FAQ

What is my Korean name?

Koreans do not translate foreign names — you pick a Korean given name you like, usually two syllables, and keep (or choose) a family name. This generator picks a real Korean given name from a fixed pool of 130 names, based on the vibe, gender association and style you choose, and explains its meaning.

Is the Korean name generator random?

No — the same choices and the same seed word always give the same name, so you can share the exact result. Press “Shuffle” to try another one; the seed shown under the result is what makes it repeatable.

What do Korean names mean?

Most Korean given names are written with two Chinese characters (Hanja), each with a meaning — 서준 (瑞俊) can mean “auspicious + talented”. The same Hangul name can be written with different Hanja, so we show one common spelling and its Unicode Unihan definitions. Native Korean names (하늘 “sky”, 슬기 “wisdom”) carry a dictionary meaning instead.

Which Korean names are popular right now?

The pool includes the top boys’ and girls’ names from Korea’s Supreme Court birth-registration statistics of recent years (이준, 이서, 하윤, 도윤, 서아 …) as well as classic names common in older generations (영수, 지영, 현우 …). Filter by “modern” or “classic”.

Can I use a Korean name in Korea?

Sure — many learners and long-term residents choose one. Just remember it is a given name; you would say it after a family name, and legally your registered name is what appears on your documents.

Do you name people after K-pop idols?

No. The pool is built only from public statistics and dictionaries, and we deliberately avoid celebrity or brand associations.
